Truffles and Foie Gras

The Dordogne region of Southwest France is one of the most beautiful destinations in the country.  The green rolling countryside with its beautiful medieval towns and villages, stone cottages, cliff-top chateaus, and prehistoric caves… This area is also most famous for its gourmet delights, notably pate de foie gras, walnuts and truffles.

We invite you to discover this lovely region on a 4-day privately escorted tour that includes a panoramic tour of Bordeaux, a guided tour of St. Emilion, an introduction to truffle hunting and the production of foie gras and wine tastings.

Day One

Pick up at the Bordeaux airport or train station. Enjoy a panoramic tour of Bordeaux, then transfer to the enchanting, medieval wine town of Saint Emilion. The village is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the centers of Bordeaux wine-making.

Then on to Sarlat, another medieval town in a region known in France as the Perigord Noir. It has been exceptionally well-preserved and is one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. More than 1000 years of architecture live in its lanes, roof-tiles and stone walls.

Settle into your accommodations at Hotel de Selves, located in Sarlat city center.

Welcome dinner in a gourmet restaurant in Sarlat.

Day Two

Pick up at your hotel by your driver guide & transfer to St Cyprie n to discover the secret of the Black Truffle of Perigord.

Our favorite “Trufficulteur” Edouard and his dog, “Titeuf,” will introduce you to the cavage that demonstrates the techniques of finding the truffles.

You will enjoy a truffle lunch with wine at the Ferme Auberge.
In the afternoon, you will discover the small medieval village of Domme and you will visit the Ferme de Turnac, a beautiful walnut plantation which houses a goose farm. At the farm Turnac, the Germain family will introduce you to the production of foie gras, walnuts, shelled walnuts and walnut oil. Your tour will end with a foie gras tasting session with white wine.

Back to Sarlat. Evening on your own.

Day Three

In the morning, a guided walking tour of historic Sarlat, a rich merchant town of the 18th century. (Please note that Saturday is market day in Sarlat)

The tour continues to Bergerac and Monbazillac. Set in the heart of the prestigious vineyard of the same name, Château de Monbazillac is a unique and original architectural blend of medieval defensive fortifications and Renaissance exuberance. Its garden terraces afford stunning views across the Dordogne valley. After the visit, you will have a wine tasting session of the sweet white wine appellation.

A guided visit of the cellars of Chateau Belingard followed by a wine tasting. Château Bélingard is the leading wine producer of the famous Monbazillac and Bergerac appellations. Red, white, dry or sweet, these wines show the optimum expression of the fruits of this unique land as well as the hard labor involved.
